Trish Hickling Beckman has been a nurse since 1987 and a nurse midwife since 1995. Her career journey was influenced by her mother's passion for nursing, leading her to pursue various roles in the medical field. Despite initially rebelling against her mother's plans, she eventually found her calling in labor and delivery, where she learned important lessons about compassion and care. One significant experience during her training involved comforting a severely ill mother, teaching her the power of kindness in healthcare. Currently, Beckman works in two roles: as a nurse midwife at Catawba Valley Medical Center and a radiation oncology nurse at Mission Hospital. In both settings, she emphasizes the importance of kindness and support in patient care. Beckman encourages young women considering careers in the medical industry to explore nursing due to its diverse opportunities. She emphasizes finding a workplace where kindness is integral to the culture, as it enriches both the professional experience and patient care.
