  • I attended the Empowerment Collective last night. I cannot visually represent the experience, but I can tell you about how it felt and what I learned. (1) I lose sight of the creative process so often in my work. I’m a researcher, coach, and consultant and I truly believe that this work is a form of art. Any kind of work can be a form of artistry, so I loved this quote from Tara. Every painting I paint is for me. Someone else, I'm only surprised and thrilled that it brings them thoughts or comfort or whatever it's going to do. So you must decide what you are creating for. (2) Networking and extrovert-ing can be fun. I identify as an extroverted introvert. So often I put so much pressure on myself for networking, that I have left networking events and just cried in my car because it felt so bad. Sometimes it’s related to the event, but more often it’s the shame and frustration I felt in trying to talk to folks. I told myself walking into last night that I just wanted to have fun. And I did! (and the event was pretty great too!) (3) Community. In today’s hustle culture of more is better and do one more thing, I am constantly seeking out individuals and groups that reflect back to me the values of being true to yourself regardless of how it might seem and lifting everyone up (rather than it being a competition). I enjoyed being at this event with so many inspiring and badass ladies. #empowermentcollective #Ipaintforme #community #asheville #entrepreneurs #womenentrepreneurs #globalcommunity #womenleadership #professionaldevelopment #networking #business #leadership #creativeentrepreneurs

  • Did you know we spend more time thinking about how to use our time than we do actually using it? I love this Madeline Dore quote " Productivity tell us to live sequentially, but our days rarely unfold in perfect order. Not only does each day vary, but we also vary within them." The same holds true for time. Thinking about our time as infinitely dividable and equal is only ONE way to think about time. Typically, our workplaces are setup with this premise. Is it salesforce that has a metric for each meeting that shows how much the meeting costs based on each person's base salary? And yet, we're still human. Context matters is here to help folks measure things that are hard to measure, like Time! I’ve created a fun consulting/coaching package to help! It is a unique combination of individualized consulting and short-term coaching, It will: * completely change the way that time feels to you * experience time in a way that doesnt feel shitty * make work, work for you (rather than trying to squeeze into a particular work shaped box) * reset your experience and perception of time – your day-to-day schedule – with data So that you feel better about how you are using your time AND get more done. It’s excellent for anyone who is overwhelmed with to-do lists and/or has competing demands for their time (hello, work, family, exercise!). It's also great for teams at work! Interested? Let's talk (link in comments for more information)

  • Today's episode of Context Matters with Amanda Bell is the second installment of my conversation with Luke Givens. In this episode, we talk about understanding how work happens in an organization. Luke outlines a way of seeing an organization that I think could be replicated into a really neat organizational scaffold. My favorite take away from this episode - Data is not just about the information, but how it travels and what it is supposed to do, which is one of the biggest reasons why things don't happen in organizations.
